This is a story of strangers, thirty newcomers to a town. Dragged in by the iron fist of the law, they had no idea of the hell they’d been brought into.
This is also the story of a town. Towns are their people; without them they’re nothing but a spot on a map. With the advent of newcomers, two sides are set.
The Cartesians, and the Foreigners. Thrown into disarray, each opposing half would change the others’ lives forever.
Above them all looms the guiding hand of chaos: the Sergeant. No one knows who he is, or what he wants, but a good man never hides his true face.

On Tuesday comes the announcement, the Sergeant laying bait for a cruel trap. Those lucky enough to have others to care for are the ones he targets; the bargaining chips are people, and so companionship becomes a curse. Thirty strangers sit in a room, and know the next time they are gathered- there’ll be even less.
As perpetual tourists, leaving town is out of the question. The first casualty came not of murder, but from daring to escape. Icarus flew too far out, his wings got clipped. Mako is dead, and twenty-nine players remain.
Thursday the headlines read “Alarming events last night! The cinema has been assaulted!”. Another element in the Sargeant’s game; another division between two opposing forces.

Thursday the headlines read “Alarming events last night! The cinema has been assaulted!”. Another element in the Sargeant’s game; another division between two opposing forces.
The truth of what happened Wednesday was this: at around 10:00pm the dark of the night gave way to the dark of a movie theatre. Not knowing how they got there, never having seen the building before, the newcomers woke to a puzzle that would allow them to escape this cinematic trap.
Destruction was inevitable, it was part of the game, the conditions for escape. When people of chaotic dispositions are imprisoned together, the damage that ensues can only be placed on the one who thought it a good idea to put them together in the first place.
And so, the cultural landmark that was the cinema fell victim to the Sergeant’s whims, and the division between townsfolk and tourists becomes ever greater.

Cartesio isn’t a town. It’s purgatory.
We all wait here for judgement, the scale ready to tip in favour of sinner or saint. You’re tested on what matters to you in life, and should you break, you’ll be brought to your fate.
Moloch Von Zinzer was the victim, Nine the killer - not out of planning, or necessity, but out of duty, and care.
In Cartesio, that’s the greatest crime.
